About

Galen Koch

I make radio stories. And sometimes I make videos, too. Sometimes I teach. And sometimes I write. I'm a born Mainer and now live in Portland and anywhere The First Coast Airstream is parked.

Before I produced stories, I spent days on end making tiny stitches on paper with thread. Someday I'll combine audio and fiber arts... When, in the future, we can stitch with sound waves.

I’m currently focused on a coastal Maine storytelling initiative called The First Coast. That project started in 2017 and in the year 2020 we’ll be bringing story exhibits and immersive soundwalks to Jonesport and Bar Harbor, Maine. This work includes teaching students, working with community partners, and developing and fostering organizational relationships.

I am a proud graduate of the Salt Institute for Documentary Studies. I have produced audio stories for NPR, BBC World Service, and The Heart.

My local work focuses primarily on climate stories, and land and sea-based working stories. Please be in touch with questions about my work, collaborations, or any of the projects you see on this website.
